Maheshpur block

Maheshpur block, one of the six administrative blocks of Pakur district, Jharkhand state, India, has a population (1991 census) of 140,665. Maheshpur Raj is part of Uder Pakur district in Jharkhand. There are 33 Panchayat in Maheshpur block. Maheshpur is a Town in Maheshpur Tehsil in Pakur District in Jharkhand State. Maheshpur is the Main Town for the Maheshpur Tehsil and also Tehsil Head. Maheshpur is 28.6 km from its District Main City Pakur and 279 km distance from its State Main City Ranchi.
Abhuva, Arjundaha, Babudaha, Bakura, Palsa, Baliyadanga and Barkiyari are some of the other villages in the same Tehsil.
Nearby villages include Teliapokhar (3.8 km), Palsa (11.3 km), Rampur (4.4 km), Babudaha (4.5 km), Rolagram (6.2 km) and Damdama (6.6 km). In 2011, Pakur had population of 899,200. The number grew 28.15 percent compared to 2001. In the previous census Pakur District recorded an increase of 24.35 percent over 1991. There were 453,101 males and 446,099 females, or 985 females per 1000 males, compared to 957 in 2001. The 2011 national ratio is 940.〔(Pakur : Census 2011 )〕
The initial provisional data suggest a density of 498 in 2011 compared to 389 of 2001. Pakur district's area is about 1,806 km2.
The average literacy rate of Pakur in 2011 was 50.17 compared to 30.65 of 2001. Male and female literacy were 59.02% and 41.23%, respectively. For 2001 census, those figures stood at 40.23 and 20.61.
